Olympiakos hosts Juventus in a match from Group D of the UEFA Champions League

Olympiakos hosts Juventus in a match from Group D of the UEFA Champions League.

For Olympiakos this is a game with absolutely no meaning at all, except for a prestige. The Greek team will end its participation in the group at the last 4th place. So far they have just one point won so far – against Barcelona at home. They are on six points behind the 3rd Sporting, so they already know their fate here – finishing 4th.

The question is – will they help Sporting beat Juventus for the second place?

Right now Juventus have just one point advantage in front of Sporting, just one round before the end of the group stages. It means that if Sporting beats Barcelona and Olympiakos don’t lose against Juventus, Sporting will finish the group at second place.

Juventus are the big favourite here, of course, but Olympiakos shall not be underrestimated. The Greek team may have suffered four defeats so far, but they also made a home draw against Barcelona, which proved that they could be a dangerous team. Juventus need to be at their best here, if they want to avoid a dissapointment.

For Juve is very important to win here, because in the other game Sporting have some serious chances to win at the Camp Nou. Barcelona already won the first place in this group, so it’s expected to see Ernesto Valverde giving a rest to his star players tonight. And this is something which increases Sporting’s chances for success in the Catalan capital.

That’s why Juventus can’t allow a mistake in Piraeus. The manager Max Allegri will use his best possible team against Olympiakos and you can be sure in this. He understands that the danger is real here and it’s not a time for experiments. The question is – will Juventus pass this test?
